[Question] Overheating laptop

So my laptop is getting pretty hot recently, I bought it in august last year so it's not old yet.
When it's at around 20% CPU usage it heats up to 85C(185F) and thats with a Cooler master cooling it about 15-20C(59-68F) All i'm running is GW1 which uses aprox 15%CPU, Steam, TS3 and my browser.

I use my laptop for 3D modeling and it never got this hot before! Also the network card id above the hottest part and it's causing my internet to disconnect a lot when it gets hot :c

Does anyone here know how I can check if its software related without having to recover or reinstall? I need to be sure it's not software before I call someone in for repairs. Because if it's software they will charge me 70,- Euros (90,- US Dollar).
If it's hardware they will fix it for free.

I almost forgot, I reinstalled it a couple of weeks ago because of the internet D/Cing.

Thanks to anyone who is willing to try and help :D

My laptop used to have this problem. Is it only one fan area that is overheating, at one point something got stuck in the fan that made it stop working and I needed to send it in.

It is probably time for a good cleaning.

You might be surprised at how dirty it is in there.

@NoobieOne: from right to left it keeps getting hotter though most heat is around the big fan on the left.

@Chev: normally i clean my laptop myself. problem here is if i open it the warrenty is void :/

I had this problem as well, I had my laptop for about a year when it started turning itself off because it would get too hot, I didn't get it I had been using a laptop cooler fan for it as well. I ended up just turning off the computer and vacuuming dust out of the fan, I also changed my desk area to limit dust intake/kept my desk area clean. Also get a air duster to blow out dust out of the fan area and clean out any panels that you can to take off dust.

Take some compressed air and blow the fan that the most amount of heat is being produced from, chances are something like hair has wrapped around the fan and it's not rotating at the speed required to keep it cool. There are literally hundreds of possibilities and without opening the actual unit most of them are impossible to list, it is most likely due to either something failing, being dirty or thermal paste.

Make sure to use short blasts of air not a consent stream. I have to clean my laptop out about every 3 months because i get so much dust in it.

Hope you're issue was fixed! However, I've found that (in my experience) laptop "coolers" actually kind of throws off the flow of air and actually increase the internal heat (but that doesn't seem to be your issue so that's good). Like others said do a careful cleaning of the fans with compressed air.

However, if you're feeling particularly techie, I would STRONGLY suggest replacing the stock GPU and CPU thermal pasting. It's absolutely terrible the way its applied in the factories and by applying a small dab from a good brand (MX-3) you can drop your temps by 20*C easily.

I have a mid-range laptop cooler with two fans on it that keeps my laptop pretty cool. It's a little louder than you would expect but not so loud that it's annoying or intrusive. As Zyll said many coolers can throw off the air flow of the laptop itself and cause issues and it took me a while to find one that actually was having an impact on my laptop and not just acting like it like so many of the coolers do in my opinion.
