I have never built a computer before and looking to get into that.
I will have about ~700 +/- for the pc, excluding the os.
Also in the market for a monitor ~100+/- bucks

That build is ~$870. If that build isn't up to snuff and needs to be trashed i'd like to keep it around $900.
Any suggestions to improve would be much appreciated.

I always recommend against AMD. You can get a Sandybridge setup for the same price, get +20% performance.

Also I don't see a GPU listed.
