Does GW2 need more Weapon types and if so what weapons do you feel should be in the game?
Please, no weapons that are just different styles of what we already have, so no katanas or shotguns, that kind of stuff.
Personally I think battleaxes are missing, they're an RPG Staple, and possibly Crossbows, I mean we have Bows and Guns so why not Crossbows, they're what you get after Bows and before Guns.
Battleaxe: Warrior and Ranger
Crossbow, Warrior, Ranger Engineer and Thief
Okay, here is a list of Weapon currently in-game in order to avoid confusion.
Also, when you suggest a Weapon, say what Profession woould use them and if you want to, say what Weapons you think should be given to/taken away from certain Professions

Mentioning crossbow but not spear? Why can't my palm hold all this face.

I think the question is flawed... You say no shotguns and whatnot but you suggest crossbows, which is just another form of what we have. I personally think we're fine with the weapon sets we have currently.

I would like to see them add in as many weapons they could without breaking immersion. That will be different for every player I'm sure but for me anything shy of hand held laser cannons (and I could even justify that with the Asura) is fine with me.
Ones I particularly would like to see are:

More weapons will be a balance pain in the you know what, we already have spears, bow staff What the H!?, melee gaunlets would be cool but hand to hand is too asian I think(even though I love it) the current set is fine for me.
Now for crossbow we have short bow of course meaning that the crossbow is like a bow but fast shooting one, batlle axe would be reasonable and portable runic cannons for the asuras but I prefer they get on that later on when they totally secure the current weapons balance.
now being selfish and irrational I would love to have this set
Spoiler
Being and unmatched speed weapon

I was meaning more like what we see in GW1 with the paragons, but a list would be nice anyway.

I'd like spears, polearms, battleaxes, and crossbows. How they've invented guns in 250 years but completely missed how to make crossbows is beyond me.
Crossbows fit warriors better than bows, imo. From both a practical and lore standpoint (you can't draw a longbow string in plate armor). Spears remind me of a traditional ranger weapon (hunting spears). Polearms are guardian weapons. Battleaxes just need to be in the game. Period.

So I was thinking earlier, what if ArenaNet added some new weapons to the game in a (very future) update. What would they be? I think it would be pretty cool if each class had a unique weapon only they could use, which reenforced their playstyle. Here's what I came up with. This is a playful thread where you can invent feasable weapons or skills that could be implemented into the game and make sense.
Warrior: 2H Axe (2H)
Excellent offensive weapon, can pierce armor and shields.
Skill 1: Cleave
Basic attack. Strikes several foes in a frontal arc.
Skill 2: Victorious Strike
Instant follow up to cleave or sunder. Only usable on foes below 50% health.
Skill 3: Furious Strikes
Several attacks which gain power each time. Easily dodged (if you're paying attention).
Skill 4: Overpower
Knocks an enemy down and inflicts cripple.
Skill 5: Sunder
More powerful version of cleave. You're screwed.
Guardian: Polearm (2H)
Excellent defensive weapon. Long reach.
Skill 1: Arcing Blow
Basic attack.
Skill 2: Desperate Shove
Kock an enemy back with your weapon.
Skill 3: Razor Wall
Defensive counter which prevents enemies from passing your weapon for several attacks.
Skill 4: Vicious Edge
Frontal attack which slashes several enemies and inflicts weakness.
Skill 5: Vigilant Defense
You take a defensive posture and counter every attack made against you for x seconds. Enemies cannot pass.
Ranger: Spear (2H)
Used for hunting animals. Also good for stabbing people's faces.
Skill 1: Jab
Basic attack. Chance to inflict bleeding.
Skill 2: Spear Throw
Throw your spear at an enemy, crippling them for several seconds.
Skill 3: Keen Thrust
Thrust your spear a vital organ inflicting vulnerability and chance of bleeding.
Skill 4: Thrill Of The Hunt
Mark the target, allow special attacks to be performed. Marked targets have higher chance of bleeding.
Skill 5: Hunter's Leap
Special attack. You leap towards your target, immobilizing them if the attack was from above or behind.
Thief: Rapier (MH)
The gentleman's weapon. Deadly in the hands of those who know how to wield it.
Skill 1: Thrust
Basic attack. More effective against enemies under conditions.
Skill 2: Feint
Feint an attack, exposing the enemy and confusing them for several seconds.
Skill 3: Appel
Distract the enemy, leaving them vulnerable and allowing you to unlease several powerful followups.
Engineer: Arbalest (2H)
Extremely powerful ranged weapon which can pierce multiple foes. Long reload time.
Skill 1: Powershot
Basic attack.
Skill 2: Piercing Bolt
Powerful shot which inflicts bleeding.
Skill 3: Bio-Chemical Infusion
Adds poison condition to your attacks for x seconds. Useful with attacks that strike several foes.
Skill 4: Hollowpoint Bolt
Attack which knocks back enemies.
Skill 5: Obsidian-Tipped Bolt (not sure what metals GW2 will have... so obsidian is a placeholder)
Powerful attack which pierces enemies in a line.
Elementalist: Battlestaff (2H)
A powerful staff which can also be used in melee combat.
Skill 1:
Skill 2:
Skill 3:
Skill 4:
Skill 5:
Necromancer: Tome (OH)
An ancient tome which contains several powerful necrotic spells.
Skill 4: Ritual Of Terror
Frightens neaby foes, causing them to flee.
Skill 5: Ritual Of The Grave
All of your minions deal x more damage for x seconds. They are also immune to conditions.
Mesmer: Fairy dust
???

Just some ideas:
Necromancer:
Offhand: Skull
Allows you to summon a Jagged Horror which inflicts bleed with each attack, sacrificing it to max a stack of bleeding on all adjacent foes. Another summons a Shambling Horror which deals damage, sacrificing it creates a Jagged Horror potentially giving you two that can inflict bleeding.
Mainhand: Blowgun
A weapon with 3 condition inflicting abilities. (Foul Dart) Deal damage and inflict poison if the enemy is already suffering from 3 other conditions. (Pierce) Will inflict more damage per condition on foe, or will inflict bleeding and invulnerability if they suffer from no conditions. (Malicious Assault) Will shoot three times and inflict one condition for each boon on target foe in this order: bleed, confusion, and chilled.
Guardian:
2H: Cestes
Focusing on damage. First skill is a chain, (Jab) attack, (Hook) attack again, (Brawlers Pendulum) lose a condition if you have one or gain Fury if you don't. (Uppercut) Cannot be blocked, an attack that does a decent amount of damage. (Combo) Attack five times in quick succession. (Hammer Fist) Deal a large amount of damage and knockdown target for for 2 seconds if you are affected by a boon. (Falcon Fist) Deal damage with a bonus for each boon on you.

Personally Halberds/Spears and some 2H Axes would be nice. Crossbows, IMO, could easily be done as different look for longbows.

Even though I know that its selfish of me to want more than ANet has already given, and that i would make it harder for them to balance the game, I do want to see some stuff. The battleaxe doesn't affect me that much, but after playing a paragon through much of nightfall, its like a kick in the gut that we don't have spears to throw on land anymore.
Then there was the idea of melee weapons that tworle00 mentioned. It may not neccessarily have to be gauntlets, but imagine how cool of a mechanic it would be for hand to hand combat to be used in the game. Guardians could place a "spiked shield" spell over their hands to form hand blades, theives could initiate a combo that included stuns and cripples from punching with "poisoned spiked gloves/gauntlets", etc. etc.
It would add a whole different dimention to the game, though I could see how it would be hard to balance with all the other weapons in the game already.

@Novem regarding hand to hand combat, isn't that what the bar brawl minigames are going to be for?
That's kind of like saying the shooting gallery fulfills the role of range so why have bows or guns.
Novem said it well, "It would add a whole different dimension to the game..." That's why I think if we do ever see an introduction of weapons and associated skills (oriental or otherwise) it will be with an expansion pack. I think anyone who knows anything about Anet and their F2P model knows expansion are pretty much inevitable and I'm glad. Personally I want to see what is beyond our established boarders in Tyria (New races, lands, weapons, traditions, and possibly different professions... maybe).

I'd love to see Whips or Halberds, possibly something like Gauntlets for hand to hand or even grappling style melee combat. Whips would be a big one, they could work for Mesmer's, Thieves, Rangers, Necromancers and even Elementalists!
Halberds would be a great choice for the heavier classes, with the professions they cross being Warriors, Guardians and Necromancers (Possibly Ranger's as well.) And Gauntlets being used on just about every class. Magic imbued for our Scholars or hidden gadgets in every finger for Engineers and obviously just for slapping someone's shit as a Warrior or Guardian. I'd like to see the Engineer have a few more options, possibly with a Gauntlet for each hand? That way Pistol / Shield or Pistol / Pistol isn't so common?
I think it's pretty likely that we'll see a few more weapon choices down the line instead of completely new professions.
I can even see something like a Boomerang working, for Engineers, Warriors, Guardians and Rangers for an Elona expansion or something. (Maybe more like a discus or another weapon that can "boomerang"?)

Well, spears technically are in the game, but they're underwater weapons.
@Blue, It's possible that flails could make it in as a skin for maces.
If ANET did that I would be sooooooooooo happy.
