Here's another game that I'm really really excited to see come out. The original PlanetSide is unmatched as an MMOFPS in my opinion and really had some epic battles. I only played it for a short while but it really was something special. I played mostly Special Assault NC and dabbled a bit in Ravager piloting and heavy weaponry (the jackhammer I think it was called?)

My only experience with the MMOFPS genre was like 2 days with World War II Online. I wasn't impressed. The era really isn't my thing though and the graphics are absolutely horrible. Planetside 2 though looks & sounds fun. To me, it's showing some promise. Especially considering the good things I've heard about the first Planetside.

A bunch more videos are available, seems like Totalbiscuit also has some exclusive access (along with being super interested in the game). He even rates PS over WoW for his top MMO experience, I think I could agree with that because as far as scale goes nothing I've experienced in MMOs even DAoC compares to the size of battles that are common in PlanetSide. Granted, it's not for everyone, as it's obviously an FPS with an emphasis on vehicle combat as well, but if you're into that and missed the original, definitely take a moment to check out this game - there are pretty much no other games like this (WW2O is the only thing that is sometimes compared).
I'm looking forward to this game, especially since it's F2P as I can hopefully play it on the side along with GW2 (if they take a cue from the original, you won't have to grind to be full power).

I would assume so, yeah. It was that way in PS at least - outdoors infantry rallies around vehicles but indoors it was all infantry. Biggest thing you'd encounter indoors was a MAX.

It looks really cool, I'm just worried about performance issues. With battles that large and it being a shooter, fps will be more important than in a game like gw2. I'd probably have to upgrade my pc quite a bit to even be able to play it. I still want to check out the beta though, because the idea sounds fantastic and I like the look of the game.

For sure, it's something we're all paying attention to, but more focused on network latency than video, in my case. As a result of having hundreds of players and vehicles, concessions had to be made: the gunfeel in PS1 was pretty different, and a lot of people didn't like it, but it was a concession that had to be made. With PS2 they've promised that technology has advanced enough that the trickery used to accomplish PS1 won't be necessary anymore, but only time will tell!

Every time I see something about PS2, I get paranoid. "Oh god, is this going to end my GW2 obsession!" Then I remember that it's being made by sony, and I relax.

I can't really dispute it, I think SOE probably took away more than they added to PS1, but I think that game proves that it is possible to have a really fun one of a kind game and still be under their flag. I would advise cautious optimism
I don't anticipate this game taking away from GW2 but if it's able to capture the feeling of PS1 (it's the same magic you find in WvW or RvR in DAoC, just a typically larger scale and with guns and vehicles), it will definitely be one I play in off-hours. I wouldn't worry about being obligated to play one or the other though, since neither have a subscription and PS2 is free to play.

New trailer for E3:
Totalbiscuit has been streaming from the event, some really good stuff I saw today. They also seem to be giving out beta keys like candy on Facebook/Twitter. I can feel the hype building...
