I'm so jaded on AMD's products lately. I used to be a huge fanboy and used their stuff exclusively, but the past 12-18 months of their stuff has been lackluster at best and the 3 AMD products that I have purchased in that time have all failed to live up to what I expected from them. I just don't trust their stuff at the moment, but I hope they can pull out of their nosedive and get back on track.

I am with unff on this one - after going back to Nvidia, I just can't see me going with AMD in the future unless they improve product support dramatically. I loved my card, but the drivers were total trash and they have not to this day fixed multi-screen setups in a lot of cases. I am a lot happier since switching.

AMD products are notoriously hot, that argument doesn't work well (both via Google and personal experience with their cards). Also, in that article they claim "better visual quality"..."all the games we tested". Um, that isn't a review or a comparison, it is a "how to". This is more of a side-by-side: http://www.tomshardw...i-gcn,3104.html and because it goes up against the 580 and not the 600 it isn't fair to argue against the 600 as it isn't fair to argue for either of them.

In the end, neither makes anyone a better gamer, it just means they can have 300 FPS.

I've heard quite a few good things about that card. Powerful as heck, however once my ATI 5970 becomes outdated (still manages to run BF3 on ultra 40+ FPS) I'm gonna be hopping over to Nvidia.

That is what I did, ATI cards run so hot, mine eventually burned up. I'm happy with my nvidia card.

If ATI would just revamp their CCC, that would be a blessing. I have not used ATI for a while now, but one the reasons was the driver issues and the amount of time they took to address those issues.

If you own an ATI card now and find the temps are an issue, its more than likely the Fan not being utilized to its fullest. Try installing "MSI Afterburner (great OC'ing tool as well) and turn the Fan settings to "Auto".

Keeps mine under 70* C now, which is quite impressive, because my cards a beast when it comes to power consumption... That and it only has 1 fan (the heck is up with that ATI?).

Was really thinking of going for the 7970 x2 but I've heard quite a fair amounts of complaints amongst the geek community in Malaysia. Might instead just go for the Asus Mars II instead. Huehuehuehue

Been going on 3 years since they've not fixed the voltage issues that cannot be fixed via CCC (you can try with MSI but I've had bad luck even with that for my previous cards). Exactly why I quit their products.

So i've just been through some articles online.

They concluded that :
x2 6950 = 7950
x2 560ti = 10-15% lower performance than 6950 CF.

At $470, two Radeon HD 6950s handily beat the GeForce GTX 580 and Radeon HD 7950, and perform very close to the pricier Radeon HD 7970. Two GeForce GTX 560 ti cards can be expected to provide comparable performance for about the same price.

So get two 6950 instead of a 7970 and save some cash with a wee bit lower performance?

I'm in a dilemma of whether I should buy x2 6950s or just buy a Asus mars 2 which may be overkill. Sigh

But really, if you get two 6950's I'm sure they'd more than handle GW's 2 on highest settings, plus with that you could easily Eyefinity them if you wanted to.

Whatever's the most cost effective at this point really...

''Over the holiday weekend, details were leaked on the upcoming release of the AMD Radeon HD 7950 and the massive dual-GPU flagship Radeon HD 7990.
With the paper launch of the Radeon HD 7970 last week, we are starting to get more leaked information about the other models hitting the market under the new "Tahiti" platform. In the information leaked byxtreview, The HD 7950 will have 1792 stream processors, 28 GCN compute units, which is down 256 stream processors from the HD 7970. It will utilize a 384-bit memory bus and 3GB GDDR5 just like the HD 7970. The HD 7950 looks to utilize 112 texture units and 32 full color ROPs. It has support for a maximum of 6 displays. What is still unknown at this time is the core clock speed, memory clock speed and price point. With the HD 7970 set to release around $550, I would expect the HD 7950 to fall closer to the $400 price mark at release.

AMD is expected to release its flagship dual-GPU graphics card based on the "Tahiti" platform in 2012. We are learning under the codename "New Zealand", AMD is working on the monster HD 7990, which will utilize two HD 7970's and 6GB of total graphics memory (3 GB per GPU system). If AMD will indeed go for the HD 7970, this could mean that the card will include 62 compute units for a total of 4096 stream processors, 256 texture units and 64 full color ROPs.

One thing that will benefit the HD 7990 is AMD's new ZeroCore technology. ZeroCore technology completely powers down other GPUs, other than the primary one, to zero state, when the system is not running graphics-heavy applications (though as discussed in our review of the HD 7970, this feature still needs to be verified). This means at idle, desktop or video playback state, the HD 7990's power draw will be nearly equal to that of the HD 7970, which through early testing was impressive.

If you can afford it do it, but man that's a lot of cashola / overkill for GW's 2.
