In no particular order heres a list of my favorite/recommended anime series and movies:

Code Geass Season 1 and Season 2 (easily my favorite show)
FLCL
Ghost in the Shell Movie 1, Movie 2, Series 1, Series 2, and Movie 3
Cowboy Bebop Series and Movie (this show is a classic)
Claymore (this one has a couple negative points against it but the rest is just so awesome it makes up for it)
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (Dont let the mahou shoujo genre fool you, this is a very dark show)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (unlike the first FMA this remains faithful to the manga to the end)
Basquash (I really like this one but not everyone does)
Darker than Black
Black Lagoon Season 1, Season 2, and Season 3
Hellsing Ultimate
Hikaru no Go (you wouldnt think that a show about Go could be interesting but ends up being pretty epic)
Star Driver (another one that people have mixed opinions on but I think its very well done)
Studio Ghibli Movies: Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, and Spirited Away
Legend of the Galactic Heroes (probably the most epic anime ever)
Eureka Seven

Hope you enjoy. :)

I enjoyed the Tower of Druaga. It's like an rpg anime. I can't really speak for other shows, I hardly watch much anime.

I'd like to add a few:
Mushi-shi
Gurren Laggan (ROBOTS IN SPACE, done by the same people who did FLCL, which I also HIGHLY recommend watching if you've never seen it before).

He's pretty much covered ALL of the other good anime I've seen, and some I haven't. Except DBZ.
F*** you, Armstrong. That's part of my childhood, man. Don't be hating, dog. Word to your mother, gee.

Last 1/2 of that show ruined it. Also, it's overhyped.

I'd add Trigun & both the Appleseed movies

Only seen a few eps of Trigun and while Appleseed was awesome to look at, its plot was only mediocre.

If you ever read the appleseed manga you would retract that statement, the first movie was nice but the 2nd one was just rubbing it in for all of the fans of the amazing manga. Not to mention they're coming out with ANOTHER appleseed XIII which is going tobe an "ORIGINAL STORY" uggghh.

I'd like to add to the recommended list despite this being Armstrongs recommendations.
I'll try and stick to recent ones for now.

Yondemasuyo Azazel-san : short 15mn episodes that are hilarious

X'amd the lost memories: another amazing BONES work, same as Darker than Black and Eureka Seven.

Colorful: A great movie

Evangelion movies: must see despite long long release

ALL Universal Century gundams ASIDE FROM ZZ jeez avoid like plague : Its gundam why not, also G Gundam does a pretty good job. Heck everything is good aside from Seed / Destiny and the 2nd season of 00. Unicorn is AMAAAAZZZINNGGGGGG

Gintama: Amazing comedy that can mixes slapstick humor with GREAT story/plot line and unique characters.

Durarara and Baccano: humor and serious, baccano does a better job because the school setting is overused and is really hard to enjoy nowadays.....

YuYu Hakusho: My favorite dubbed show ever and is incomparable to any other anime because my opinion overrules all judgements.

Ano Hi Mata Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai( We still don't know the name of the flower from that day): Good anime long name put me off but I enjoy it greatly

Haruhi IF YOU IGNORE ENDLESS EIGHTS JEEZ that wow. yeah. haruhi + movie is good times.

Sket Dance : a long-running manga finally done as anime and done very VERY well

Toaru Majutsu: all variations, index railgun and w/e there is.

The Tower of Druaga/Sword of Uruk (added that because 2 seasons and had nice closure)

Ore no imouto - There is no way my sister can be that cute: Story based off of a novel, suprised me and was well done.

Almost all of the Macross series, usually super sad but still well done.

Omg Samurai Champloo.

I'd also like to add that Claymore started off nice when it stuck to the manga, then it realized that the manga had dropped to monthly with a weaker fanbase, lost funding and had to cut the show short ruining every single character in the show. :(

There are so many more........

*Bump*

Couple new ones to add to the list -

Fate Zero. If you liked Fate / Stay Night, Fate Zero steps it up x1000. On a break right now, but will resume in April.
Guilty Crown. It is from the creators of Code Geass, but not nearly as epic. Has some decent twists, but the plot is a bit choppy/confusing. Still a good watch.
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu 1&2. I usually don't like comedy animes, but wow, this one brought be to tears.
Kurokami the Animation - Just awesome. Also called Black God.
Needless - Hilarious and Action packed. Watched the subbed version if you can, the dubs are awful.

Obviously the big 3 right now (Bleach, Naruto and Fairy Tail) are all really good. Bleach has really stepped it up lately with their current arc.

If you're looking for some epic ones that I recommend if you're just getting into anime - Code Geass, Death Note, Darker than Black.

I wouldn't recommend Gulity Crown, plot is messed up and very random stuff happens that doesn't really make sense :S

Overall the latest releases for anime haven't been as strong as previous quarters. I will watch Guilty Crown until the end because of some of the cool concepts, but yeah, the plot / transitions could have used a lot of work.

Personally though, the best anime right now is Fairy Tale - purely from entertainment value from the battles and the storyline is fairly straightforward to follow.
